Northwind (BE)
The Northwind offshore power plant consists of 72 off shore wind turbines and a transformer station in water depths up to 28 meters. The project was completed in 2014 and, with a capacity of 216 MW, it will be able to supply 120,000 households, which is equivalent to a reduction of 240,000 tons of CO2 per year.
One of the challenges during installation was the seabed, consisting of moving sand that needed to be secured using rock erosion protection.
It is located near the Belwind 1 project, 37 km off the coast of Zeebrugge.
